The past few weeks have been big ones for Mona Shores powerlifters. The Sailors hosted a regional meet on Saturday, February 13th with the varsity taking 3rd place overall and the JV team finishing as the regional champions. In all, Mona Shores had 6 varsity 15 JV lifters qualify for the state championships as well as 8 regional champions listed below:
Amari Richardson- 145 lbs (varsity)
Andrew Baker- 207 lbs (varsity)
Aiden Sellgren- 165 lbs (JV)
Solomon Robertson- 194 lbs (JV)
Tomarion Steward- 220 lbs (JV)
Braxton Carr- 242 lbs (JV)
Ja’Mari Taylor- SHW (JV)
The following two weekends saw the Sailor competing in the Michigan High School Powerlifting Association state championships. At the varsity meet on March 4th, Andrew Baker placed 5th at 207 lbs, Jeremiah Love placed 4th at Super Heavyweight, and Amari Richardson place 3rd at 145 lbs.
On Saturday, March 11th at Kearsley High School, the JV team took home the MHSPLA state championship team trophy, the second in the history of the school. The team had five lifters place first or second in their weight classes.

In the girls division, sophomore Kyle Dusenberry placed second in the regional in th JV 181 pound division, qualifying for the state championship meet. For the second year in a row at the state meet, she placed 4th in her weight class.
