As has become the custom at Mona Shores High School, four of our fall athletes and one of our coaches were named first-team all-state in their respective sports for 2022.
Senior Delaney Buckner earned this distinction by placing 8th in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 59.8 at the state championship meet at Oakland University, where she will compete in college. This was the 50th anniversary of the MHSAA event.
For the third year in a row, junior Drew Hackney was a state quarterfinalist at #1 singles at the MHSAA state championships at the Midland Tennis Center, earning him all state recognition by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association.
Three Sailor football players were named first-team all-state by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. Senior Jesse Love was chosen as an offensive lineman, Dahmir Farnum made the team as a running back, and Ke'Wuan Farnum was a defensive backfield selection. The Farnum brothers will continue their playing careers at Wayne State University in the fall of 2023.
The MHSFCA also named Brian Sikkenga as an Assistant Coach of the Year for the fall of 2022. Coach Sikkenga has tutored multiple all-state and future collegiate football players and has been a mainstay on a coaching staff that has kept Mona Shores as a consistent state football power.
