Official SAT® Practice on Khan Academy® is the best way to prepare for the SAT. Combining these resources with Mona Shores staff commitment to providing the very best instructional practices will ensure that all of our students are prepared to be successful on the nation’s most widely used college admission test, the SAT. It is the first step toward higher education for students of all backgrounds, connecting students to colleges and universities across the country, and to scholarship organizations by opting into Student Search Service® on the test.

The more effort you put in, the more opportunities you have to earn a scholarship. Complete all six, and you’re eligible to earn $40,000. Scholarships will be awarded through monthly drawings to students who complete each action.

  • 1. Build Your College List: $500
    Get started by exploring colleges you're interested in.

  • 2. Practice for the SAT: $1,000
    Use Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy® to get ready for test day.

  • 3. Improve Your Score: $2,000
    Show how practice pays off by improving your SAT score.

  • 4. Strengthen Your College List: $500
    Make sure your college list has a mix of academic safety, match, and reach schools.

  • 5. Complete the FAFSA: $1,000
    Fill out the free government form to apply for financial aid during the fall of your senior year.

  • 6. Apply to Colleges: $1,000

    Apply to the schools you want to attend during the fall/winter of your senior year.

  • Complete Your Journey: $40,000 Complete all six scholarship steps to be eligible for a $40,000 scholarship.


Counseling Department:

It's Scheduling Season for 2023-2024

Sailors, make sure you are working on your course requests for the 23-24 school year. By the Monday of your class course selection return dates, please complete the following:

  • Review scheduling video and materials in your student’s Class of 20xx - Counseling Office and Scheduling Google classroom.

  • Sign Up for Lockers - links on HS LMC page and in their Google Classroom

  • Completed CTC application (link in Google Classroom) if planning to attend

  • Paper course request forms completed and signed by parent and appropriate teacher(s)

  • Online Course requests entered through the Student Portal

  • Return signed forms to your Counselor when you meet during your scheduling week

Scheduling Reminder for Sophomores: Make sure you are working on your course requests for the 23-24 school year. By the Monday of your class course selection return dates (January 30-February 3 for current Sophomores), please complete the following:

  • Make your course selections for next year.

  • If you have questions, spend time reviewing the video, course sequence charts, and other materials found in your student’s Class of 2025 - Counseling Office and Scheduling Google Classroom.

  • Sign Up for Lockers - links on HS LMC page and in their Google Classroom. Sign-up closes February 3.

  • Completed CTC application (link in Google Classroom) if planning to attend

  • Yellow course request forms completed and signed by parent and appropriate teacher(s)

  • Online Course requests entered through the Student Portal.

  • Return signed forms to your Counselor when you meet during your scheduling week.

  • Sophomores will meet with Counselors during your Social Studies class (Government/Economics). Students not in a Government or Economics class in Tri 2 will receive a pass from their Counselor.

It is important to have course requests submitted in PowerSchool so that your student and their counselor can make the most of their time discussing their future plans and making sure their selections are appropriate. Counselors can assist with making any necessary changes.

Senior Celebration information:

SENIORS - Sign up by February 1, 2023 for $50 for the after graduation night celebration - after February 1 it will be $75. Additional sign up sheets are available in the front office. This will be a fun filled night to celebrate your graduation from Mona Shores. Senior Celebration Post Grad Party Registration Form


Extended Day Program:

Monday - Thursday after school until 3:45 pm. Teachers and NHS tutors are available for support. Location is the HS Library Media Center. A great opportunity to work on collaborative projects, stay engaged in your learning and achieve your goals.

Mental Health resources for families:

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services: Kids aged 13 to 17 often struggle with changes going on inside them and all around them. If you’re in this age bracket, you probably experienced even more uncomfortable changes when the pandemic arrived.
